Projects by PSC

PSC accomplishments are impressive for a young simulation consulting firm. Our expert modelers have earned the trust of our clients. The following highlights some of our more challenging endeavors:

Modeling conceptions and final system designs for phase II of the TPSS Systems Proposal by Siemens Logistics and Assembly for USPS.
We started in the conception phase of the project by providing a non-graphical data model to determine the system operating parameters. A highly detailed graphical simulation model was then built including all the conveyors and sorters. The purpose of the simulation study was to provide conception assistance and system design verification.

System and operations enhancement of an existing UPS Sortation hub.
PSC was asked to use our simulation engineering expertise to increase the throughput of an existing UPS Sortation Hub. First we examined and modeled the existing system to create a base simulation model. After numerous experiments and design changes, viable and efficient system design modifications were determined and implemented. PSC then experimented with the operations and balancing of the system. We developed an excel based Graphical User’s Interface (GUI) that allowed the project team to easily run and vary operational parameters of the system. Through our contributions of recommending system and operational modifications a dramatic increase in the Sortation Hubs throughput capabilities were obtained at a minimal cost.

Conception and implementation modeling of a belt slug double sawtooth merge for Dematic.
This type of system had never been built! The value of the simulation modeling to assist the clients design team can not be overstated. PSC partnered closely with the project design team for management, mechanical, and controls to provide accurate simulation modeling to prove out the conception and viability of the system design. We were able to run experiments and determine solutions to obtain the highest throughput capability possible for the system before it was implemented. The result is an extremely complicated system that is undergoing a smooth and successful implementation. Because of this project, Dematic named Preferred Simulation Consultants Inc. their preferred simulation vendor. We are honored to have the largest conveyor and systems producer in the world hold such confidence in our services.

Design and development of an automotive paint shop re-sequencing system.
PSC was asked by a confidential client to provide a simulation and design study of an automotive paint shop re-sequencing system. This was a greenfield system that still needed much of its design to be completed. The purpose of the simulation was to test system concepts and develop a viable system solution for the design team. PSC enjoys these kinds of challenges. The first approach for this task was non - simulation and was to evaluate the rough system design and product flow. The data was manipulated and understood. Rates and processes were developed checked and verified. This initial non - simulation work caused the system layout to be revised and its job flow reconsidered. A simulation model was then built to test system design and to develop control algorithms. The simulation was able to test different ideas and solutions for handling the controls of the systems re-sequencing process. After various scenario tests and approaches to system controls and layouts, a successful system design was developed that the design team was confident in meeting and exceeding its JPH throughput goals. This type of project is one of the reasons why simulation is a crucial part of the system development process. PSC was proud to be able to help.

Develop sub system enhancements to existing distribution center.
We will do whatever can to help and no project is too small. PSC was asked by one of our competitors to assist in model development of a major computer manufactures distribution center. PSC’s responsibility was to perform sub system model enchantments to an existing overall system simulation model.
The purpose of our tasks was to prove out viability of the system design changes and to compare the results to the original and current designs. The main challenge was to pick up a previously developed simulation model, understand the existing poorly written code. update the code to meet industry standards, and accurately perform the system enhancements. What at first appearance seemed to be a quick model update turned into an involved process. PSC stands behind our work and our interest is to provide accurate simulations for system evaluation.

Work with sales department and design team to prove and improve system concepts.
A confidential client sought the simulation expertise of PSC to help in the sales of a new type distribution pick tower system. PSC worked closely with our client’s sales department and concept team to develop a successful system design using simulation modeling. This was a classic “Sales” purpose of simulation. PSC’s client was able to prove out their innovative concept and proposal to their customer with a 3-D simulation animation with all of the engineered number crunched results.
The simulation was built in a robust manner which allowed numerous daily data sets to be run for system testing. The model also allowed system attributes to be easily modified for even more system concept tests to be done. The bottom line was a system sale for our client. We were very proud to help.
The model did not end there. Because PSC built the simulation in an easy to be read format with clear and concise arrangements our client was able to hand the model over their own internal simulation modeling group for the remainder of design verification and implementation phase of the system. PSC seeks job security through our exceptional work quality built into each of our customer’s simulations.
